Through-air drying machine gets new gas valve train and burner management system

Essity has completed an upgrade to its through-air drying (TAD) tissue macine in Prudhoe. U.K. Andritz supplied new equipment including a new gas valve train as well as a new burner management system for electronic control of the air/gas ratio to optimize the combustion process over the entire burner output range. This will increase burner performance while reducing gas consumption by up to 4%. CO2 and NOx emissions will also be considerably reduced, and safety improved.
Lee Mc Donald, project engineer at Essity Prudhoe mill says, “Our close cooperation with Andritz Novimpianti has enabled a smooth and quick start-up of the upgraded combustion system. With this upgrade we have not only optimized the performance of our burners but also made our operations safer and more sustainable. Andritz’s tailor made approach perfectly met our needs.” Gianni Pellini, Project Manager at Andritz Novimpianti adds, “We are very honored that Essity again placed their trust in us for this project and happy to continue our close collaboration for sustainable tissue production.”
Essity is a Swedish based leading global hygiene and health company with five manufacturing sites throughout the UK. Trends such as longer life expectancy, higher living standards and greater awareness of hygiene and health support the group’s growth, which is based on successful innovations, digital transformation, leading sustainability work and efficiency improvements.
